KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (ES) – The council of five Mentris Besar
from states under the Pakatan Rakyat, is urging the people to boycott
two newspapers namely Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia.
Council member, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said
that the newspaper was excessive and unprofessional because it has
endlessly condemned and twisted the facts regarding the state
administration of the five states and also the Pakatan Rakyat
coalition.
Khalid also said that particular media outlet purposely played on
certain issues to fan the people's anger towards administration and
party, at the same time also playing with racial sentiments.
All five members of the council is instructing that all departments
and government institutions under Pakatan Rakyat administration to
stop buying the newspaper or advertisement space from them.
Thus, the council members is urging all Utusan Malaysia and
Mingguan Malaysia readers to stop buying the newspaper immediately.
The party leaders in the Pakatan Rakyat also regretted that the
issue of the power and status of the royalty were being heavily
politicized, especially by the media belonging to the federal BN
government BN and certain Umno leaders.
"We stand firm in upholding the status of the King as the
constitutional monarch as was written down in the Federal
Constitution," he said in a statement yesterday.
"We have also accepted Karpal Singh's explanation that he meant no
insult to the Sultan. We hope that everyone accepts this and stop
pursuing the issue to avoid instability and tension between the
